What Are the Main Antimicrobial Technologies Used in Stainless Steel Sinks?

Current mainstream technologies include: Alloy-based antimicrobial (built-in): Antimicrobial elements like silver or copper are added during smelting. The effect penetrates the entire material, offering the most durable and reliable performance, typical of premium products. Surface coating technology: Application of coatings containing silver ions or photocatalysts (e.g., TiO₂) via spraying or dipping. Lower cost, but less durable and may degrade with wear. Electrolytic antimicrobial treatment: Forms a dense antimicrobial oxide layer on the surface through electrolysis, offering stronger adhesion and better durability than standard coatings. Nano-composite technology: Embedding nano-silver or nano-zinc oxide into the surface layer to enhance ion release efficiency.

How to Properly Clean and Maintain an Antimicrobial Stainless Steel Sink in Daily Use?

Daily Cleaning Use a soft cloth or sponge with neutral detergent. Rinse thoroughly with water. Dry the surface after cleaning to prevent water spots. Avoid Strong Acids/Bases Do not use bleach, toilet cleaners, or other harsh chemicals. These may corrode the surface and compromise the stability of the antimicrobial layer—especially for coated-type sinks. Avoid Abrasive Scratching Do not use steel wool or harsh scrubbers, as they may scratch the surface and affect appearance. Note: For alloy-based antimicrobial sinks, surface scratches do not impair the inherent antimicrobial function. Regular De-scaling For limescale or grease buildup, use citric acid solution or a dedicated stainless steel cleaner. Follow product instructions and rinse well afterward. No "Activation" Required The antimicrobial effect is continuous and automatic under normal conditions—no special steps (like UV exposure or chemical activation) are needed.
